In the crash of a reconnaissance aircraft of the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti, on Friday evening, all eleven passengers were killed.
The aircraft was on a routine surveillance flight, it should be made of aerial photography flown over the area. According to the United Nations, the machine in the southeast of Haiti near the town of Ganthier had crashed on a mountain. The only inaccessible mountains hampered the salvage operation.
Rescue crews could free the eleven occupants of the aircraft just dead from the wreck. It is still unclear who was on board the UN machinery. Michele Montas, UN spokesperson, speaking of military personnel from Uruguay and Jordan. According to reports from Haiti, however, the soldiers came from Jordan and Sri Lanka. In addition, two police officers from Haiti should be flown.
The peacekeeping mission, MINUSTAH launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
